As one of CanadaHelps.org’s informational videos asks, “What are people doing online?” The answer is: Everything. Banking, dating, searching, and, that’s right, GIVING!
As a registered, charitable, non-profit company, CATS MAINSTAGE relies heavily on the generosity of those who donate and sponsor each production. We accept donations all year round, mainly by cheque, and though giving has reportedly decreased by 5.3% in 2008, online giving has seen an increase of 30% (CanadaHelps.org)! We’ve turned to CanadaHelps.org (CH.O) to facilitate online giving as an avenue of fundraising.
What does that mean for the donor?
Well, possibly the most appealing benefit for us is that CH.O takes care of your tax receipts. As a young, non-profit company, our administrative resources are limited. Through CH.O, your tax receipt is sent by email immediately following the payment of your donation(s). This tax receipt is a secure PDF, eligible for tax filing by CRA. If you’re a Quickbooks user, you can even link your CH.O account to your Quickbooks file and have your entire donation history downloaded directly!
In terms of your privacy, CH.O doesn’t sell or trade donor information. In addition, the contact information passed onto the charity you’re supporting is entirely up to you. No payment information is sent and anonymous donations truly stay anonymous. You can also choose to donate in honour or memory of someone else. CH.O will even send a free e-card for any occasion.
Once you’ve had a taste of how simple and effective CH.O can be to support the causes important to you, it will become your primary source of giving. In fact, that’s just the point! CH.O lists 85,000 registered charities in Canada. It’s a one-stop shop for giving! Also listed is Theatre Passe Muraille, where we presented Urinetown, and in which you will enjoy Singin’ in the Rain and Cabaret. An advanced search for charities in the Performing Arts category, in Toronto alone yielded 105 results! In the broader Arts & Culture category, a whopping 326 entries!
More Benefits for Charities
For other Canadian charities out there, CH.O is not only a great donation tool, but a partner in online marketing efforts. The site offers several tools to learn more about e-newsletters, website focus, blogging and much more. Many of their webinars can be found on the CanadaHelps.org vimeo page. In their own words, CanadaHelps.org’s mission is, “To engage Canadians in the charitable sector, providing accessible and affordable online technology to both donors and charities to promote – and ultimately increase – charitable giving in Canada.”
So consider supporting CATS MAINSTAGE by donating through CanadaHelps.org to invariably encourage us all to be more engaged in the charitable sector!
